Products increasingly compete for our attention. Bako starts from the idea that a living space should give peace of mind, and from Naoto Fukasawa’s idea of affordance: products that need no instructions and are used without thought.

Every living space has stacks of books and magazines, so the speaker takes the shape of a book. It sounds good when it is covered on both sides, tucked into a shelf or a pile, and on its own. The final prototypes have aluminium and SLA casings around a wooden sound box. Bako was made in fourteen weeks at ArtCenter College of Design, for Onkyo.
